Looking Up

Looking up in Los Angeles... these are some things you might see.

Shining Down

I liked the effect that the sun was having on this building... as you go higher up, it becomes brighter and brighter (until you get to the sky).

The Urban Landscape

Looking up in downtown Los Angeles. I thought the shiny metal cylinders in the foreground were interesting.

Light and Shadows

I enjoy walking around cities late in the afternoon or early in the morning. When the sun is at low angles, it creates unique lighting opportunities. You can play around with the shadows or reflections in the building's window (in this case, I did both).

Escape Pods

I'm not sure why, but looking closely at this photo makes me a bit dizzy.
What you're looking at is the side of a hotel building in downtown Los Angeles. The windows remind me of mini-escape pods. I guess this is where you would want to be if the world was coming to an end.

The Canton Fair

The Canton Fair is the largest trade fair in China... over 22,000 exhibitors and 180,000 buyers from around the world attend this event over a 3 week period. If something is made in China, there's a high likelihood that you will find it here: Electronics, Household, Electrical Appliances, Hardware, Tools, Machinery, Vehicles, Spare Parts, Building Materials, Lighting, Equipment, Chemical Products, Consumer Goods, Gifts, Home Decorations, Textiles, Garments, Shoes, Office Supplies, Cases, Bags, Recreation Products, Medicines, Medical Devices, Health Products, and Food.

These are a few photos of the convention center and the Westin Hotel (which is designed to look like a "peacock") next to the convention center. Apparently, this particular Westin Hotel is quiet for most of the year... the only exception being the Canton Fair. During that time period, it will actually be the most expensive and crowded hotel in Guangzhou... recommend avoiding that time period. Other than that, it's a very nice hotel.

Last Night in Boston - Sunset, Night, & Dawn

This series of photos was taken from my hotel room (in the Hilton) during my last night in Boston. I remember the evening quite well... had my last dinner in the North End with a really good friend and ate my last tiramisu at Mike's Pastry. I was sad to be leaving friends and work colleagues, but was also excited to move back to California and pursue a new opportunity. It's only been about a month since I've moved... and it feels like time has slowed down. When I was reminiscing about these photos and my final night in Boston, it felt like it happened about a year ago. I guess when you're meeting so many new people and learning/experiencing so many new things, time can slow down... which is good when you enjoy what you're doing. I'm sure that I'll eventually settle into some sort of routine (will start cooking food for myself again) and time will start flying by... but I'm definitely going to enjoy myself and make the most of this new life. Cheers!
