Enter At Your Own Risk

I saw this stone carving in front of one of the temples with a closed door. I have no idea what the writing means... but I would like to think that behind the closed door are monks having kung fu battles. Perhaps the writing means, "enter at your own risk"?
I really loved the details in this photo... heavy texture on the stone carving, bright red door in the background, a dusty floor in the foreground, two different types of bricks stacked together, a shiny surface reflecting light...

**UPDATE**
Thanks to a Chinese friend, I found out that the word means "a kiosk where someone stands in the snow"... it comes from a story in Ming Dynasty which tells a monk consult Buddhism to Buddha someday was snow.

Selective Focus

Getting a close up of some of the textures that have been created over the last century. In the top photo, a woman peaks through a narrow passage way.

Kung Fu Masters in Training at Shaolin Monastery

This was a pretty impressive site to see as I was departing the Shaolin Monastery... 1000s of students were quietly sitting at attention and listening as their masters gave instruction. I was surprised that not a single student looked distracted by the tourists (such as me) walking by. It was like we did not exist.

Autumn Flare

I took this image towards the end of the fall season this year. In Boston, we've had a very mild winter (thus far)... but I'm definitely looking forward to being able to walk (or ride my bike) around without a jacket/hat/gloves. Cheers to spring!

Beach Plants

For some reason, there are always interesting plants at the beach (that you don't see anywhere else). They seem to be a bit tougher and grittier than the normal plants. Here is one such example of a plant found on the beaches of Maine.

Red Leaf

Sunset along the Charles illuminating one of the few red leaves left on the tree.

Red Leaves, Blue Skies, Can't Lose

I was really happy how this picture came out... bright red leaves in the foreground, bright blue sky in the background, and some leaves/branches out of focus in between. It's definitely a bit more "artsy" than most of my photos.

A Floating Tree

This photo was taken along the Charles River bike path near Harvard. I loved how this tree was floating in a pond of multi-colored leaves... overall, the colors came out really nice and the red leaves added made it more vibrant.

Bricks and Texture

Red brick wall against the blueish green plaque... with a green vine trickling down.

Get out of Dodge.

Not too remarkable of a photograph, but I liked the street name!... Dodge. Also, the color red kind of "popped" nicely.

January 10, 2011

Snowy morning in Boston. Thought the red berries on this tree were a cool contrast to the pure/white snow.
