Flowers on the Charles

At the start of each spring season, flowers are planted along the Chalres River in Cambridge, MA (next to Harvard University).  It's a nice little touch to the landscaping efforts... now if only they could build a beach. John W Weeks Bridge is in the background.

A Runner's Path

A few flowering trees cover the runner's path along the Charles River in Cambridge, MA.

Spring Into Spring (2012 Edition)

Everything is starting to come back to life again after a relatively mild winter in Boston... flowers are blooming, temperature is staying above 50F, outdoor patios are open, and farmers markets will be starting soon.

I'm planning to dedicate the next several days to posting images related to spring time. Enjoy!

Tilted Reflection

As I was walking down the pathway to JFK Park in Harvard Square, I took this image of a puddle. I really liked the color and the reflection. Photo taken in late November. If I recall correctly, it was actually quite warm out today. If this puddle was still here today, it would be pure ice.

Charles River Sunset

The sun was setting behind me in this picture... and it created a gradient effect on the skyline above the Charles River. The Zakim bridge is in the background.

Sci-Fi Sunset

To me, this picture resembles a scene from a sci-fi movie... the barren tree branch resembles a claw of some alien creature that's coming to attack me. I chose to focus on the end of the branch and the sharp points. In the background was a beautiful sunset.

This photo was taken at JFK Park in Cambridge (next to Harvard).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! These are a few photos I took on a late November afternoon at JFK Park in Cambridge, MA.

Red Leaf

Sunset along the Charles illuminating one of the few red leaves left on the tree.

The Fall

As I was walking around Cambridge this weekend, I could barely see the ground in some spots... about 95% of the leaves are now off the trees. It's definitely evident in the pictures I took. On the first one, you can see that the bench is almost entirely covered. Bring on winter and snowboarding season!

Late Autumn Sunset

We had a lovely Sunday in Boston... temperature was above 60 degrees. However, even with the warmth, you're reminded that winter is rapidly approaching. All the trees are now barren and the sun goes down earlier and earlier each day. These are a couple images I took right before the sun vanished.

The Open Road

Every Sunday during the spring, summer, and fall, a section of Memorial Drive (next to the Harvard campus) is closed to cars... turns into a pedestrian only area. Last Sunday was one of the last days of the year that it will remain closed to cars (kind of sad).

Regardless, I'm pretty stoked that the city of Cambridge would do this. I usually do my grocery shopping on Sunday... and it allows me an easy bike commute to Whole Foods & Trader Joe's. It's also interesting to see the road covered in leaves during the fall. With cars zipping past, you don't notice things like that.

Looking UP??

Walking through Harvard Square on a lovely fall day.... and looking UP
The color combinations were very nice against the bright blue sky.

A Floating Tree

This photo was taken along the Charles River bike path near Harvard. I loved how this tree was floating in a pond of multi-colored leaves... overall, the colors came out really nice and the red leaves added made it more vibrant.

First Snow of the Season!

New England just had it's first snow of the season... and it was quite a major event. The snow starting falling Saturday afternoon and didn't let up until sometime early Sunday morning. News stations were referring to it as "Snowtober". Although, I thought that was kind of a stupid name. Boston didn't get hit too hard (as you can see from the pictures), but areas to the north got several inches. Also, because it was a wet snow, power lines went down in quite a few places.

When I woke up on Sunday morning, it was sunny, windy, and most of the snow had already melted. I guess Boston had gotten more rain than snow. Anyways, I went for a walk through Harvard Yard on my way to caffeine and took a few pictures.

Autumn is in the Wind

I was walking around Harvard Square last week and happened to run into a Taiwanese couple that was completely lost. They wanted to know where to find a statue of some guy that they can rub feet for good luck (they were referring to the John Harvard statue in Harvard Yard). Anyways, I had nothing to do and the weather was nice... so I thought I would walk them over. I ended up being their tour guide for the next hour and a half. I know absolutely nothing about the historical significance of buildings at Harvard, but I just pointed at the buildings and said "very old". They seemed impressed. They also took a bunch of picture of the leaves. Very friendly people... and an interesting way to spend part of my afternoon.

These are a couple pictures I took while walking around with them.

Purple Door

I'm not quite sure why, but I really love the entrance to this house.

A Summer Afternoon in October

Columbus Day might have been the nicest day of the entire year. Maybe it just felt that way because I know winter is approaching and we might not have another day like this until next year... or it might be because we just had 40 degree weather a few days ago (and I needed heat in my apartment). Regardless, it was beautiful. I went for a little walk around Cambridge. Here are a couple images of people enjoying the sun.

Summer Lovin' in the Fall

Why are there geese still here?
