Best photos of 2010!!

In thinking about the new year, it's caused me to reminisce about what I've experienced over the past 12 months... and acknowledge how lucky I've been to travel to some amazing places and see some amazing sites. Below is a collection of my favorite photographs from 2010.

The sun setting on Puntarenas in Costa Rica.

A piece of driftwood at the river mouth of Boca Barranca (I thought it was a crocodile when I first saw it). Boca Barranca is the 2nd longest lefthand point break in the world. I got the longest rides of my life here.

London bridge. It was a very cold/misty evening... and I waited in the Starbucks at the corner until the sun went down so I could capture this image.

Kind of an abstract shot of some homes next to Union Square. I really like the color and texture of this image.

Flowers on the side of an old art gallery in Portsmouth, NH.

My own private sandbar in the Maldives. It took me about 25 minutes to paddle over in this kayak... totally worth it. I was in the middle of the ocean all by myself. Amazing.

Looking at one of the many islands in the Maldives... right as the sun was about to go down. Look at how crystal clear the water is.

A nice fall image taken somewhere in New England.

The city of Boston as the sun was setting. A chilly fall evening. Image taken from a secret spot somewhere in Arlington.

At one of the reservoirs next to Storrow Drive in the Back Bay. It was a beautiful fall day and I was just cruising around on my bike. You can see the Prudential building in the background.

A beautiful summer afternoon in Boston. Lots of sailboats out in the Charles River. This is kind of a classic "Boston skyline" shot... with the Prudential Center and John Hancock building on both sides.

A chilly winter morning in Harvard Square.

A beautiful sunset along the Charles River in Harvard Square. The sky turned gold.

Another insane sunset that I saw. This was taken on a beautiful fall day in New Hampshire. It almost looked like the town was on fire.

Just looking at the amazing colors in the sky. It was cool to watch the planes writing in the sky.

Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam... cool contrast of old vs. new.

The most breathtaking skyline in the world... Hong Kong. This image was taken during Christmas time... so you will notice special Christmas decorations on the buildings.

Anse de Marcel in Sint Maarten. A lovely evening.

At Maho Bay in Sint Maarten... watching the planes land  at Princess Juliana airport.

Seeing yet again another amazing sunset at Grande Case in Sint Maarten. Grande Case is definitely the culinary capitol of the Caribbean... had some amazing dinners there.

This is one of my favorite surf spots in Bali... Echo Beach (in Canggu). Some really fun waves towards the middle of the beach. Also happened to have a very nice sunset.

Awe inspiring sunset at Seminyak Beach in Bali.

The sun setting over rice fields near Ubud (in Bali)

Christmas time!... sitting back next to the fire as the Christmas tree glows.

Snowy morning in Boston.

December 30, 2010

Another non-winter related image... A misty autumn afternoon in New Hampshire. Across the street from Jennes Beach.

December 29, 2010

All of the winter images were getting me a little depressed (I'm more of a "summer person")... so I decided to post one I took on a warm fall afternoon in New Hampshire. It was probably one of the nicest days of the year... and the surf happened to bee really good as well. At Jennes Beach.

The day after Christmas... as a kid, it was always a bit of a let down. However, as you get older, it acts as more of a relief. By this day, the majority of your obligations should be finished. Here's a picture of my parent's Christmas tree, with the ornaments still up.

December 22, 2010

As I sit in the extreme cold of Boston, I think back to the beautiful sunsets and weather I experienced in Bali only a few weeks prior... looking at an amazing susnset over rice fields near Ubud.

December 21, 2010

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam... where every man, woman, and child are required to have motorbikes. This photo was taken very early in the day on Sunday. Had I taken a photo in the same location a few hours later, you would have seen 1000s of motorbikes.

December 20, 2010

Hong Kong island skyline view #2. Such an awesome view, I had to show two pictures (closeup on the Christmas lights)

December 19, 2010

The most breathtaking skyline in the world... Hong Kong island as seen from Kowloon. If you enlarge the photo, you will see all of the buildings are decorated with Christmas lights.

December 17 - December 18, 2010

I had a not so fun trip to Guangzhou this time around (food related issues). However, I was able to capture some images from my hotel room at Westin Guangzhou... which is a very nice hotel.

Right before the sun went down... it was cool how all the building tops were glowing.

Took this image just as the sun started rising (don't ask me why I was up so early). Kind of a cool haze cast over the city.

December 16, 2010

Looking back on my holiday pictures from St Maarten, this was a photo I captured by lucky accident. As I was taking photos of the sunset at Grand Case, I noticed a plane flying close overhead. I like how the plane's silhouette looks against the background.

December 15, 2010

Picture shot from inside the bunker of Reunification Palace (in Saigon). All of the walls are reinforced with steel... must have been kind of creepy to be situated down here when all the bombs are going off around you. Lots of escape tunnels everywhere.

December 14, 2010

Abstract photo taken inside Reunification Palace in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).

It was really interesting to go to Vietnam and see a different perspective on the Vietnam War (a perspective that was not present in my High School textbooks). Obviously, they portrayed the United State's involvement in a negative way... but weren't "anti-American" in how they did it (some of the war exhibits were actually sponsored by US companies).

December 13, 2010

Notre-Dame Basilica... in the heart of Saigon. Somehow, I was able to capture a semi-tranquil moment in the midst of all the chaos around me. The church is over 100 years old and was built by French colonists in the late 1800s. All of the original building materials were actually imported from France.

December 12, 2010

Image taken from on top of "Reunification Palace" in Saigon. This building was South Vietnam's capital prior to being overtaken by the North Vietnamese army. The two tanks featured in this picture were the tanks that stormed through the capitol gates on April 30, 1975... and marked the end of the Vietnam war.

December 11, 2010

Quick picture from Ho Chi Minh City. Like the building colors/textures. Also cool contrast between old and new.

December 9 - December 10, 2010

A tale of two extreme contrasts below:
Cruising through the rice fields in Bali.

Chilling out in the Kowloon Shangri-La (in Hong Kong) drinking tea.
